I arrive at Kimberly about 3.30pm Friday, having flown from Durban via Jo'berg. I pick up a rental car and meet up with a delightful lady, Sister Letta from Pretoria.
We will be travelling together about 160km to Danielskuil. We're not far from the Kalahari dessert and in contrast to last week in the "Berg" the landscape here is pretty flat and roads go straight to the horizon.
We arrive at the Idwala Lime recreational club late afternoon where the teams meet up and prepare the vehicles.
After we take dinner in the form of an informal spit braai at the local recreational club "Stokkies".
The guests are formally introduced by the lovly MC Wilna Cloete, Bertus Wessels the general manager of the Idwala mine, Lionel Jacobs, Bidvest Director and the local councillor for the area.
During the dinner the team leaders brief their respective teams on the details for tomorrow. This is our second year visit of a 3 year cycle to the schools of this area including Blikfontein, Danielskuil, Lime Acres, Groenwater, Postmasberg and Skeifontein.
A local school band who were quality, keeps the crowd entertained and theres even a bouncy castle for the many sponsors children...
Its a great start to this weekends Rally....
